Lewes OctoberFEAST, Harveys and Little Hapas

600OctFEAST

Join us for Lewes OctoberFEAST! in the Harveys Brewery backyard on Saturday, 28 September from 12-4pm. It’s a vibrant celebration of the best in street food. There will also be live music with Starfish and Ouse Samba. And then there’s the Harveys Hop Bar, featuring some of the best ales in the world. How can you say no to that combination? Well, you just can’t.

600haparveysSpeaking of combos . . .
It is our humble opinion (and experience), that anything Little Hapas goes perfectly with anything Harveys, so whatever you have on the day will wash down nicely with something from the Harveys Hop Bar. In fact, we like the combo so much, Little Hapas’ menu will include our original, delicious korritos featuring hapasauce made with Harveys Blue Label Best Sussex Pale Ale; pizzadillas, hapaslaw and a special “Rarebit O’ Crumpet” made with Harveys Blue Label and hapasauce. Come and taste for yourself.

Lewes also has some fantastic independent shops, a castle, beautiful gardens and more history than you can shake a stick at. Hop the train, have a bite, a wander, a couple pints and make an afternoon of it!

Little Hapas Rarebit O’ Crumpet
featuring Harveys Blue Label (Best Sussex Pale Ale)

25g flour
25g butter
black pepper
Make a roux and cook on low heat for a few minutes.

Mix together, then whisk into roux:
125ml of Harveys Blue Label (Best Sussex Pale Ale)
1 tsp dried wasabi (or fresh)
1 T hapasauce
1 tsp Sriracha chili paste
1 tsp rice wine vinegar

Slowly stir in to melt:
125g grated aged cheddar
1 tsp toasted sesame seeds

Take off heat and be as greedy as you like with the portions! Grill on toast for a more traditional rarebit, or for Little Hapas “Rarebit O’ Crumpet,” grill crumpets on both sides, then add 1 tsp of hapasauce to the top of each crumpet, as much rarebit as you like, top with toasted sesame seeds and grill.

Pssst . . . England, we’ve got two American classics – hapa stylee.

Peanut butter cookie. Oatmeal raisin cookie. Ever had one outside of the US? We haven’t seen any in the UK! Which is why little hapas is bringing these American classics to Sussex. One, because we miss them. Two, because we know you’re going to love them!

Speaking of two . . . we couldn’t just offer you one cookie. We had to make a treat worthy of the British sweet tooth. So we developed a rich, creamy vanilla-pod-white-chocolate-butter-cream filling – then sandwiched it with TWO of our chewy, crunchy hapalicious cookies. If you’re too full from your monster korrito, put a cookie sandwich in your bag for later! They’re sealed for freshness.

We realise most Brits may not be too familiar with the American tradition of mixing peanut butter with something sweet, but you have to trust us. We haven’t met anyone yet who hasn’t gone gaga over this!

Cookie Sandwich:
Nestled between two oatmeal raisin (& apple) cookies lies our thick rich, creamy vanilla-pod-white-chocolate-butter-cream filling . . . with just a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. This compliments our own blend of freshly ground pumpkin-spice mix within the cookies. If you can get that far without devouring it, run home, put the kettle on and get cosy while you eat this. You’ll probably need a nap. This is comfort food at its finest.

Please ma’am, may we have more!?

happycustomersIt was a cold, crisp, sunny Saturday afternoon on the corner of Lingfield & Dormans Park Road, right in front of MacPhersons Glass . . . folks were busy walking into town, queuing up at A S Fry and shopping at objets d’art . . . while little hapas heated the griddle up and made piping hot pizzadillas, crispy grilled-cheese crumpets and monster korritos! We had a great opening and want to thank everyone who stopped by, sampled our hapacorn & hapasauce, chatted while we cooked your food and showed interest by taking our menus.

We’ll be back this Saturday (15 December, 11am-2pm), so don’t eat that cold sandwich before you head out for shopping in East Grinstead! You’ll need sustenance to battle the cold and throngs of Holiday shoppers.  little hapas cooks up good, hot, healthy, delicious fusion food that will give you strength, stamina and, if you have our korrito . . . superhuman-kimchee-power!! We’re pretty sure you can’t get that anywhere this side of London. And as far as the korrito goes, you can’t get that ANYWHERE else. That’s our own creation.  You really have to try one.

little hapas famous "korrito" (Korean burrito). Korean refried beans, our special blend of rice and barley, aged British cheddar, a blend of Italian cheeses, wazelnuts, sempkin flower seeds, avocado, hapasauce, cowgrrl dressing and pi-Korea de gallo (a fresh tomato salsa with onions, pepper, coriander, garlic & little hapas kimchee); rolled, grilled and ready to devour!

As the new year approaches, we’re gearing up for weekday lunches and Friday evening before-or-after-pub grub 😉 Follow us on twitter and check back here often to find out where and when! Also, if you have an idea where you might like to see us roll up, send us a message. We’re always open to suggestions!

We’ll leave you with this dessert suggestion: PEANUT BUTTER COOKIE SANDWICH. Just read the description, m’koy!?

You just gotta love local business and thinking outside of the box! That’s why we love MacPhersons Glass, Windows, Doors & Conservatories — for their great service and products — and for giving little hapas a perfect place to open our serving hatch! (Thanks Bob.) We’re right across from a sweet little park and next to objets d’art (Picture Framers & Gallery) and A S Fry (Butchers).  Whether you’re walking into town for some Christmas shopping, Spar for a paper, or playing mud ball in the park with your mutt, stop by, say “Hi,” and experience our world fusion street food for yourself.

hapasauceSample our hapasauce, hapacorn and cowgrrl dressing — they not only make great gifts, but our hapasauce is a fantastic marinade, so if you’re on your way to A S Fry Butchers, grab a bottle and we’ll give you some ideas on how to use it with their fine products.

See you soon!
